Biographical note

Joseph Dudley of Roxbury, son of Gov. Thomas Dudley. He was a freeman in 1672, representative 1673-5, made President of the Colonies of Massachusetts and New Hampshire in 1686. In 1690 he was commissioned Chief Justice of Massachusetts and was after Deputy Governor of the Isle of Wight under Lord Cutts. He came home in 1702 with commission as Governor, which office he held until November 1715. He died April 2, 1720.
