The fleurs-de-lis and crown in the achievement of arms reflect the armigerís believed descent from the Franks and Saxons while the sun is symbolic of the search for scientific knowledge and spiritual enlightenment. The pelican and red, wavy design elements represent the armiger's Louisiana heritage as well as the waters of the Red and Mississippi Rivers around which he has spent most of his life.
