Design rationale

The ship represents past naval service, as well as a love of the sea. The panther represents a fierce devotion to defense of the family, especially the children. The boar on the crest is a symbol of courage when fighting for what he believes in. The argent tincture represents his peaceful nature, while the contrasting gules tincture again reflects a warrior like fierceness in defense of the family.
