The converging streams are indicative of my paternal ancestry's settlement along the convergence of Rocky River and Long Creek in what is now Stanly County, NC. Similarly, my maternal ancestry settled on Cross Creek in what is now Cumberland County, NC. The oak tree and color green are puns on my surname, Underwood. The hill the oak tree stands on is a reference to Stoney Mountain, located in the Uwharrie Mountains, where the Underwood farm is situated. The hornet’s nest is a reference to my ancestors who fought in the Revolution and were in the area of Mecklenburg County, NC when General Cornwallis stated that Charlotte was a hornet's nest of rebellion.
