Historical note

Kevin Chan's winning design for the Kings Court English College House coat of arms is simple and beautiful. The two halves of the design reflect the unique and complementary duality of Kings Court and English House. The blue and white colors of the halves, symbolizing "night" and "day", also remind the houses that neither can exist without the other, while the bordure around the edge of the shield is reversed, reminding them that they are a unified, cohesive community. The tree represents growth and renewal -- the physical growth in the House's courtyard and the mental growth that the University experience brings. The four stars in the design are representative of the four Residential Programs: the Biosphere Program, the Huntsman Program for International Studies & Business, the Perspectives in Humanities Program, and the Science & Technology Wing (STWing) Program. The crest is topped with an English crown in reference to the name of the House, and the House motto is "Scientia Vos Liberabit," which means "Knowledge Shall Set You Free."
