Design rationale
The ten ancient crowns are a reference to the ten crowns, or the ten kingdoms of the old testament book of Revelations. The tincture of purpure is a symbol of royalty, referring not to the armiger but rather to the Christ, the King of Kings. The owl is a symbol of wisdom and strength combined. The anchor refers to the armiger's maternal family, the Rathburns, who have a naval tradition going back centuries and to the state of Rhode Island which this family played an important role in founding.
