Always On Guard In Defense

Rationale

The armiger’s crest shows a bear in a defensive posture supporting a lochaber axe with his right hind paw resting on a rock. This represents a willingness to defend his beliefs. The torse colors represent the connection to Clan MacMillan whose chief also bears Or and Sable. The bear recalls the armiger’s scouting nick name “Big Bear”. Its offensive posture and the basket hilt claymore represent his fighting side and his Scots ancestry. The three Maltese crosses in the red chief represent the Knights of Malta. As they are considered early firefighters from the time of the Crusades, the Maltese crosses memorialize his work as a firefighter at three separate departments: Hazel Green Volunteer Fire Dept., Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Dept., and the Madison County Training Academy. The Argent tincture of the crosses represent the color of his first badge as a firefighter. The crosses also symbolize the Holy Trinity. The border represents the armiger’s belief that that even though we internally perceive ourselves one way, others may see us differently from the outside. His motto describes his personality.
