Design Rationale
George Herbert Hammond (1925-2012) was a lobster fisherman much of his life. He used a unique buoy to identify his traps and vessel. This buoy, which is white with two overlapping and perpendicular orange and green stripes, has been adopted as a family emblem and has inspired the design of these arms.
The crest is in honor of George's military service during WWII. The passant guardant lion is featured on the arms of Normandy, where George participated in combat. The sword charged with a goutte was from an emblem of a regimental badge he wore.

In accordance with the American Heraldry Society's Guidelines for Heraldic Practice, all descendants of George Herbert Hammond are entitled to inherit the arms and crest without difference, and regardless of surname, but may choose to difference the arms if they so desire.
