Biographical information

Born in Atlantic City, NJ in 1946, Charles grew up in military setting, as his father was an Air Force pilot for 30 years. Charles traveled around the world growing up, and joined the Air Force himself and became a fighter pilot. He served for over 20 years and retired, later becoming a research scientist.

Design rationale

Used the Purcell name derivative "piglet" to inspire boars' heads; nebuly represented clouds and Air Force history; Tower represented his strength and focus to protect and defend, with wings again referencing his flying; colors representing sky and green for Irish heritage. (These arms were designed by Charles' wife Ellen Purcell in consultation with Dale C. Roe as a Father's Day gift in June 2009.)
