Design rationale

The tree is a cant on the bearer's name. The three droplets represent the three lines of the Hammontree family and the water represents the unknown European origin of the family. There is also religious symbolism in the charges representing the the crucifixion. The rod of Aesculapius represents the bearer's profession while the porcupine represents a peaceful demeanor that will violently defend itself and loved ones if threatened.
