Design rationale
In the crest the fan of rye represents Vörå, Finland, which is the armiger's ancestral homeland. Vörå is known as the "realm of the rye." The tinctures of the crest -- red and gold -- are the colors of the Swedish-speaking Finns' cultural flag. The pen nib represent the books and articles written by the armiger about Vörå history, genealogy, and the region's emigrants.
The tinctures of the shield -- red, white and blue -- and the star represent the armiger's connections to America, where his family once lived before returning to Finland. The bear's gamb refers to Vörå where the civic shield contains the same charge. The mjöllnir refers to the armiger's patrilineal roots at Thors farm in Bertby, Vörå. The mjöllnir and bear gamb together are a pun on the armiger's first name.
