This certifies that the heraldic arms of Levi Lovelace (Love) Gasque (1819-1888) which honor the 2nd great-grandfather of Larry Meadows Broadfoot are registered and described by the blazon below
Armiger b. 1819 in Marion Dist. SC and died in 1882 in MS. He md. Susan Rogers b. in Little Rock, Dillon County SC in 1819 and d. in Smith County, MS. on July 6, 1888. They had four children. He was the eldest child of Henry H. Gasque and Amelia (Milley) Bryant of SC.
The Gasques were Huguenots and followed the teachings of John Calvin. It is believed the French gave these Protestants the name Huguenots from the name of Bensançon Hughes, a Swiss religious leader. Some elements as well as the crest are adopted from the flag of the old province of Gascony, the area in France from where it is believed the Gasques came [Quarterly 1 and 3 Azure a Lion rampant Argent armed and langued Gules; 2 and 4 Azure a Garb Or banded Gules]. The Fleur-de-lis in the crest is for France while the Cross Fleuretty represents the Huguenot religion.
