Design rationale

The trimount symbols in the medieval style are indicative of the ancient family history in Italy. The red sea lion represents Michael's and his son's naval and Coast Guard sea service and the oak wreath represents their numerous rescue and life saving experiences as well as the patriotism shown. The anchor is symbolic of the steadfast religious foundations of the family.
