Biographical information

Robert G. Safsten (1930-2007) was born and raised in the far northwest corner of Washington State. He was known locally for being an excellent teacher, community and church leader. He left a large posterity with a heritage of patriotism, high standards and a love of people of many cultures.

Design rationale

The red and gold shield represents the old "blood" world and the new world. The blue wavy bend symbolizes the waters which our ancestors crossed, dividing the old world from the new world. It also symbolizes the protection of our heritage. The three 4 point compasses on the Bend represent his children. This is to remind his posterity to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, always striving to follow the correct path. The Arch/Doorway in the upper field represent the Stability of the Home. Its door is always open to those in need. As our “doors” must always be open to those around us. It is stylized in an “ancient” manner to represent the lasting nature of his Family. The three bushels of reeds represents: 1) "three" means “Perfect” -- a perfect family is one which all members belong; 2) The red cords represent the Blood relation, as well as the need to always be close to one another; and 3) Green represents the youth of his family in the new world.
