Founder of John's Hotel and community, George Barnum, made fortune in grain, and was President of Barnham Grain Company (later one of the components of General Mills). Design also suggests Union Civil War uniform (Mr. Barnum fought in the war) and "skyline" of community.

Organization description

Community centered on John's Hotel, also known as Barnum Island Hotel, often called the first hotel on Isle Royale but really the first hotel on the Isle Royale archipelago as it is located on Barnum Island at Washington Harbor. The hotel is now undergoing restoration as part of the John's Hotel restoration project.
