This certifies that the heraldic arms of James Randall Meadows (1808 - 1868) which are offered in memoriam and conveyed to his descendants are registered and described by the blazon below
Born 1808 NC, died 8 Feb 1868 Johnson Co., GA. A farmer with extensive land holdings, he was the presumed oldest child of James Meadows of either VA or NC.
This design is a variation of several coats of arms granted to Mead, Meadows, Medows, etc. The oldest of these designs used a Chevron Ermine and most used three Pelicans vulning themselves proper. A similar design using a Chevron ermine was appropriated from arms in Burke’s General Armory by some family members which has been floating around the family from about 1950. The tinctures of the canton and lion were not given and it is probable that this is one of the "fictitious" arms in Burke’s General Armory. So far as is known no arms of Meadows or similar names uses a Chevron Crusily or in combination with the canton and Lion as blazoned. Most of the arms use a Pelican Vulning itself Proper for but some used a Pelican in Her Piety.
