Design rationale

The armorial bearings of Daniel Christopher Gill were designed to primarily reflect and honor his devout Roman Catholic faith and his ancestral heritage. The main design element of the shield, the cross flory, recalls the important role Christianity has played in his life and his devotion to the Catholic faith. The blue barrulet wavy in the base were inspired by the barrulet wavy found at the base of the archdiocesan arms of Saint Louis, Missouri and are here used to represent his hometown and the affection he has for her beauty and history. The chief in this design serves as a means to honor and symbolically express the union of his two disparate ancestral heritages. The choice of green for the tincture of the chief and the cross stems from the strong Irish roots on his paternal side of family. To represent the Hispanic ancestry of his mother’s Mexican family, gold six-pointed stars were used. The inspiration for this comes from the gold stars on the Virgin Mary’s mantle in the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a very important symbol of Mexico’s cultural identity.
