Design rationale

Green shield: color of Ontario, of Dartmouth College Birch tree: native to Canada, bark may be written on and used to make canoes.

Cross of St. George: references my loyalist ancestry, Anglican faith, and subject of my Ph.D. thesis. On a shield to represent my longstanding interest in heraldry.

Black bear: symbol of Ontario, of my high school (Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario).

Sword: St. Paul's spiritus gladius. The motto also relates to this.
