Design rationale

The 1st and 4th quarters are assumed arms for a Cordy family of Gloucestershire, England. The 2nd & 3rd quarters are assumed arms for a Shaw family, also from Gloucestershire. Thomas Cordy (1784-1867) and Elizabeth Shaw (1816-1893) had five children out of wedlock before eventually marrying in 1864. The children originally used the surname Shaw before later taking the surname of their father.
