Marshalling note

The Drew University arms marshal the arms of Oxford University, Lincoln College (Oxford) and the personal arms of Cardinal Thomas Wosley (adopted by Christ Church). The Lincoln College arms further marshal the arms of Bishop Fleming, the resident Bishop of Lincoln College, and Bishop Rotherham.

Historical note

The university was founded in 1866 as Drew Theological Seminary (Methodist). The arms were officially adopted in 1961 as the primary emblem of the University, supplanting a 1928 seal.

Design rationale

The arms honor Methodism's founder John Wesley and his academic career. He was an undergraduate at Christ Church, a fellow at Lincoln College, and the recipient of a master's degree from Oxford.
