Historical notes

Adopted by the Board of Trustees [in 1902] upon the recommendation of Rev. Harry B. King [18]'91, Harrisburg, Pa., who designed it. It is a combination of the coats of arms of the Washington and Jefferson families. The colors, red and black, were Washington's colors and they have been the college colors for several years. The two towers joined together and the three stars symbolize the colleges in the seperate and united state. The lower portion of the shield is adapted from Jefferson's coat of arms.
