Historical note

Designed by Malcolm W. Brown, '03, Hill College House's winning design's striking shield features the Philadelphia skyline across the lower field of the crest, reflecting Hill's fervent interest in the city as well as a strong sense of community within the House. The skyline is embraced by a chevron, which stands for protection, with white roundels that mean generosity. Penn's traditional red and blue are the chosen colors. Here, the red also signifies strength and magnanimity and blue signifies truth and loyalty. The "split P" pennant in the left hand corner represents Penn pride, while the stack of books represent scholarship. Hill's motto is "Habitare In Unum" -- Latin for "To Dwell As One."
