Design rationale
The argent broad arrow is meant to be an allusion to the Archer surname. This charge has been placed on a field of azure, a color traditionally symbolizing truth, while argent, also the metal of the chief on which are placed three crosses in honor of the Trinity, is a traditional symbol of sincerity. This color and metal are used as a way of calling to mind the words of Saint Paul, "Therefore, let us feast, not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness: but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth" (1 Cor. 5:8). A note in the original Rheims New Testament, published in 1582, states that Saint Paul is here speaking of qualities one must have in receiving the Blessed Sacrament, and that the paschal lamb, which was a figure of Christ, was first sacrificed and afterward eaten with unleavened bread; so, Christ, being sacrificed on the cross, is recommended to them to be eaten with all purity and sincerity in Holy Communion. The color and metal being a visual meditation concerning the Blessed Sacrament are, therefore, a Eucharistic symbol.
